Microsoft Messenger 5.1

Messenger 5.1 is out on Mactopia. Not much really exciting for the regular user… The release notes are not very easy to find. It appears that they brought some improvement to the file encryption for corporate users.

Office 2004 was just udapted today. The new release is available on the Mactopia site. You can either use the updater from this site or use the Check for Update command from any Office 2004 app. The new update brings Spotlight search integration as well as Tiger SyncServices support. It means we can natively sync to the System address book and to iCal 🙂 Office 2004 vient juste d’être mis à jour aujourd’hui. La nouvelle version est disponible sur le site de Mactopia (le site…

Entourage: Docktopus Dock Icon

Wooops, it looks like I forgot to mention the new version of Docktopus. The new version now supports Entourage. It means you can have e-mail counts on the icon of Entourage in the Dock (amongst all the other things the app already offers) as you do in Mail. Their mail count lets you count in the accounts you want and even preview the last 5 e-mails (and tag them as spam if need be). Quite nice 🙂 Wooops, on dirait que j’ai oublé de parler…

Contact categories / Exchange Sync

If you’re using Exchange, you probably know that every time you rebuild the database or reset the Exchange cache with Entourage 2004, the categories are lost for all your Exchange contacts. A workaround for this problem would be to save the name of the categories to one of the unused custom fields of the contacts (that get synched to Exchange). When you need to rebuild the database, you lose all the categories, but you can find them in the custom field and re-apply them. I…

MacWorld ’06

This year, Microsoft invited me to attend MacWorld. I’ve spent quite some time since the beginning of MacWorld at the MS booth and wanted to share a few pictures and information I gathered. It’s now official: a new update for Entourage 2004 will come out in March. It will bring Spotlight and Sync Service support for Tiger users. VPC does not run on the MacIntel. Not even through Rosetta!! MS officially committed to bring new software to the Mac for another 5 years. I personally…

RadTech

I usually don’t write to advertize a product, but I went to the RadTech booth at MacWorld yesterday and was really impressed. Even though I use a Notebook Screensaverz, the screen of my powerbook (aka: that thing before the MacBook Pro :->) had visible marks from the keyboard itself. I new they “could” be cleavned, but every product I had tried so far failed. They asked my to bring my powerbook over and in a minute, using my screensaverz and their OmniCleanz, all the marks…

Flip4Mac WMV 2.0

Welll, the news came out yesterday. Flip4Mac WMV codecs for QuickTime (the player) mae out yesterday: Products – Flip4Mac WMV …and the new version is FREE!!! I’m rather busy at MacWorld so I haven’t had time to test it yet, but I sure will as soon as I can. It could be a replacement for WMP in most situations. As far as I can tell there iss not DRM support, so it might be worth keeping both apps around. I’m sure a way to make…
