As you might or might not know, it has been reported that the Office installer for Office 2008 installs a lot of files with the wrong permissions (ID 502, giving access to the files to non-admin users).<\/p>\n
Microsoft is aware of the problem and is working on it. They also provided a workaround for people who want it (if you’re admin and there is no non-administrator account on your Mac, you don’t need<\/em> this \u2014 it’s only to prevent non-admins to do anything to these files)<\/p>\n 1) launch the Terminal application from the \/Applications\/Utilities<\/span> This will change the ownership to the affected files to the administrator group.

\n2) type the following command as one line and press return:
\n\/usr\/bin\/sudo \/bin\/chmod -R a-st \"\/Applications\/Microsoft Office 2008\" \"\/Library\/Automator\" \"\/Library\/Fonts\/Microsoft\" \"\/Library\/Application Support\/Microsoft\"<\/code>
\n3) enter your administrator password when prompted
\n4) then enter the following command (still, on one line):
\n\/usr\/bin\/sudo \/usr\/sbin\/chown -h -R root:admin \"\/Applications\/Microsoft Office 2008\" \"\/Library\/Automator\" \"\/Library\/Fonts\/Microsoft\" \"\/Library\/Application Support\/Microsoft\"<\/code>
\n5) You might not have to enter your administrator password this time. That’s it!\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\nThe command assumes that you haven’t moved any of the files to a different location of course.<\/p>\n
